1This is the record of the family line of Jesus the Messiah, a descendant of David and of Abraham.

11And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:

17So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.
17So there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile in Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.
18Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
18This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about. His mother Mary was engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together as husband and wife, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.
19Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
19Joseph, the man she was pledged to, was a good and fair man. Not wanting to disgrace her publicly, he decided to break off the engagement quietly.
20But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
20But while he was thinking this over, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph, descendant of David, don't be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because the child she is carrying was conceived by the Holy Spirit.
21And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
21She will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."
22Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
22All this happened to fulfill what the Lord had said long before through the prophet:
23Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
23"The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" — a name that means "God with us."
24Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
24When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife.
25And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

29And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
29If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.

13But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

35A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
